The year is not quite thorough without acknowledging some particular artists and without a doubt Christopher Scott Leary is one of them. Before even starting to take a listen to his latest Ep Isolette one should only expect the finest from this 36 year-old Manchester Based Artist, Producer and Sound Engineer. Not only because of his brilliant résumé but for the fact that we are dealing with an individual who holds a B.A. in “Audio Production” and a M.A. in “Music”. despite the fact that he also has a whole other career in “Mastering Engineering”.
Now
what happens when we get inside Isolette?
To begin with, nothing has changed since his vigorous and solid start in 2004 with
“A Mid Summer Nice Dream”. Same atmosphere, look-alike tunes and timbres. As if
it is vivid that he has been making a signature during his fifteen years of
artistic career. But as we go further, percolating patterns, melodies and drifting
ambiences are the ones that
dazzle us. And lets not forget that we are here to talk about Rhythm and
perceive his Point of View in aesthetics of Rhythmology. Oddly destabilized
non-techno made with experimental pops and whirr loops and metallic
sonorities familiar to techno users, yet arranged in a non-linear manner.
The
first track of the Ep, “Paper
Unicorn”
is a tour into a mélange of stumbling ambiences and pulsing chord progressions.
Meantime “Hivernal” is so rhythmically ingenious it can introduce you to a
whole new world of non-random randomness! As for the “Infinite Booked” where
the Melody is so catchy that you can not even focus on the other aspects of the
song.
bringing
up rear, as you observe Isolette from
a general perspective everything seems so simple yet impeccabile. He will be recognized
as the same 21-year old novice but more skilled, experienced and more sophisticated.
